We’re Wagging for a Worthy Cause
Wagoween’s real winner is the Greater Charleston community. Event proceeds help the LENS Foundation support the Charleston Police Department's K9 unit and its critical public safety initiatives.
From conducting narcotics sweeps to tracking down suspects, these specially trained dogs put their lives on the line daily.
It costs over $25,000 to purchase a K9 and provide it with specialized training, safety equipment, and care. Last year’s Wagoween enabled the CPD to purchase and train a new K9 named Luther in honor of the late Police Chief Luther Reynolds.
The handling officers adopt their retiring partners and shoulder the cost of caring for these hero dogs when they become the most expensive.
LENS now covers the cost of food for retired K9s, ensuring they live their golden years with the comfort and care they deserve. We also provide crucial resources such as bullet-proof vests to protect them in the line of duty.
